The OEMC buzz is all about unavailability of parking along with illegal parking, an unsecured distant auxiliary lot, and limited duty Police officers handling security at OEMC. We have been doing some field work and what we have learned is interesting and very disconcerting.
Sources HAVE confirmed this and more. There is now an auxiliary parking lot a good distance away from OEMC. The lot is neither fenced or patrolled. Close to the OEMC facility there are approximately two outpatient mental health facilities which may have residents residing, along with a YMCA residence and a transient hotel. The Chicago Dispatcher concerns of safety in both walking and parking, especially during evening hours appears to be a very valid safety concern. The OEMC security, parking lot and facility is a whole different ball of wax.
There apparently is a serious parking problem at the OEMC facility. There are no gates or card readers for the lot. Its also true that mass numbers of vehicles do not display 911 or OEMC stickers and there is virtually a true hindrance at the main Security Post to stop cars from flying through and passing the check point. OEMC has apparently left open their lot to just about anyone who feels they can just blast through and past the Police. Citizens make frequent and daily unsafe u-turns in the mouth of the OEMC drive coming dangerously close to the guard check point further endangering the Officers within the unsanitary dilapidated structure without any water facilities. Calls are not properly made to the Security Parking Lot check point informing the Officers to a great part that visitors are even coming through as procedures dictate and warrant.
OEMC violates its own security procedures daily and lends little assist to the security or safety of its own lot, facility or personnel. Apparently OEMC is getting ready to initiate parking enforcement but they failed to notify their main Security Officers at the check point. Security Officers at OEMC have not been informed of the upcoming changes to take affect on March 1 st. Their notification came about through notes plastered on the doors of OEMC. The Officers read the windows for their minimal information the same way the Chicago Dispatchers did and no one spoke to them as security.
Security Officers at OEMC are rarely informed of security changes. Nor is security taken into account as being security for the sake of OEMC. Security is not serious Homeland Security at OEMC and it is not do to the Officers. It is do to the bad management coming out of 311 with no assistance to or regard for the Officers or employees of OEMC or the city as a whole. The Security Police Officers work under both 311 and the OEMC umbrella within a storm called utter unbelievable chaos with dual finger pointing going on between (ARS and OEMC) with the Security Officers left in the dark and unprepared.
Welcome to Homeland Security,
where 311 (ARS) is setting up OEMC Security Police guards to eventually implode. Just so all of upper management at (ARS) can finally wash their hands of the OEMC Security detail. Safety, Security, communication with and training for the Security Police Officers is not a serious factor for OEMC at 311 (ARS.) Why, their too busy with in-house stats to be bothered with such nonsense. We now have to wonder what ever happened to Homeland Security and the White Paper?

Employee parking revisited revisited revisited
In case you don't read, or you wander blithely through life not paying attention to those things which stare you in the face, there are new signs placed at eye level yesterday on the building's west entry/exit doors. Starting on 01March07 (and actually sporadically until then), there will be parking enforcement in our lot. We've gone for years without it.Are they going to go after people without permit stickers in their windows? Or are they going to go after people who park in the aisles (and anyplace else they can fit) because there literally are no available spaces in the parking lot? Can't wait to see what 01March brings.
