HOOKING UP U.S. ATTORNEYS THE RIG IS IN VOGUE

"In most states, the practice of appointing U.S. attorneys is rigged," Peter Fitzgerald told me in an interview on Friday. "Appointments are controlled by political sponsors, with the tacit understanding that the new prosecutors will protect the people that put them in and go after the others."

On the topic of Atty. Gen. Gonzales mistakes and resignation demand.
Now the above paragraph happens to be one big statement by Peter Fitzgerald the irony is that Gonzales fired a few U.S. attorneys but McNally is still working somewhere in the Justice Department, which is amazing given his whopping conflict of interest. Edward McNally, the former acting U.S. attorney of the Southern District, also came in after Fitzgerald left politics, appointed just in time to bring his title along as he testified for the defense in the corruption case of former Republican Gov. George Ryan. Mc Nally was Ryan's lawyer in private practice. On the witness stand, McNally accused prosecutors and FBI agents of treating Ryan unfairly during questioning. But McNally forgot to mention that his former law firm went bankrupt, and that he owed money, and that another law firm tasked with recovering money from McNally and his partners was Winston & Strawn, the same firm that handled the Ryan defense.

Again we have Gonzales firing a few U.S. attorneys, yet McNally is still working somewhere in the Justice Department, which is amazing given his whopping conflict of interest. Perhaps the senators could ask McNally who in Illinois helped name him acting U.S. attorney in time for the Ryan trial. That question will never be asked once again we have glaring corruption to the heights.
