DEPUTY MARSHALL AMBROSE FREE ON 50,000 BOND

A federal deputy marshal accused of leaking information about a government witness to the mob pleaded not guilty today. John T. Ambrose, 38, entered his plea in a brief appearance before U.S. District Judge John F. Grady and left Chicago's Dirksen federal courthouse immediately afterward without talking to reporters.

Ambrose was assigned several times to guard Nicholas Calabrese, the government's star witness in the investigation of 18 mob murders. The case is due to go to trial in May.
